All aboard to change the face of Darlaston

Darlaston residents can put the town on the road to change by climbing aboard a London bus to air their views on its future regeneration.

Tens of millions of pounds could be ploughed into the town to bring about its transformation and plans have been drawn up by Walsall Council following detailed discussions with the community.

Shoppers and locals alike are being urged to visit the bus on Saturday 6 March while it is parked up at Asda between 11am and 4pm and have their say.

This is the third consultation event on proposals for the town, and it is an opportunity for people to see the final ‘vision’ and make their views known before the document is considered by Cabinet in April.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Walsall Council deputy leader and Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is another opportunity for people to see plans for the future of their town which have been shaped by their community.

“They deserve a town which they can once again be proud of.

“Darlaston was once famous for its industrial heritage and the hard work and inventiveness of its people - it’s about time this was recognised again.

“The final regeneration document will be used by Walsall Council and its partners to realise the potential in the area.

“In these difficult economic times, strategies such as this help to identify funds to deliver the vision on the ground.

“Many residents and businesses have already taken the time to have their say. Now we want everyone on board so we can all help turn Darlaston around.

"This is another example of our commitment to Walsall's district centres.”

Face painting and children’s activities will also be staged during Saturday’s consultation event.
