Welcome to Walsall Council's Work Experience pages. Here you can find out more about work experience with Walsall Council. Walsall Council is the biggest employer in the area, and there are a huge range of career opportunities – from gardening to office work, IT to Accountancy and lots more. On this site, you can view an overview of each Service Area.

Work experience at Walsall Council can help you to develop your chosen career path; we can help you discover what job is right for you.

We can provide work experience placements for young people and adults alike. Whether you’re studying and want to find out more about the world of work, you’re finding it difficult to access work due to lack of experience, or if you’ve been in work for a while and fancy a career change, we would be happy to help.

Disclaimer: Please note that all work experience placements will last for a pre-agreed fixed term and are unpaid. Walsall Council will not cover travel, food or any other expenses.  Although we will do all we can to find you a work experience placement, we cannot always guarantee availability in the areas or on the dates you have requested.

What kinds of jobs do people do at Walsall Council?

The council is divided into sections, or ‘service areas’ that all offer different public services.  Gardening and refuse collection, for example, are part of Neighbourhood Services, whereas office and administration work comes under Business Support within Resources.

How do I apply for a work experience placement?

You will need to complete a work experience application form (see links below) and send this, along with an up to date copy of your CV (if you have one) either by e-mail to recruitment@walsall.gov.uk or by post to the address below.

I have filled out my application form, what happens next?

Once you have sent your application form to us, we will contact managers within the areas you have expressed an interest in. We will then let you know if we have been able to find a placement for you.  Once your placement is confirmed, we will send you an information booklet to tell you more about your placement (dates, location, times, useful contacts, what to wear and other useful information).

Is there anything for me once I have finished my work experience placement?

If you are aged 16-24 and have enjoyed your placement with us here at Walsall Council, you could apply for an apprenticeship.
